The mission of this Board is to see that inspections of barbershops and schools are conducted to determine compliance with sanitary regulations. The Board hires inspectors as a means of ensuring that this is done appropriately. Additionally, the mission of this Board is to adopt sanitary regulations concerning barber schools and shops and procedural rules. Additionally, the mission of the Board is to review the barber licensing laws of other states to determine which are the substantive equivalent of the laws of North Carolina. The Board also conducts examinations of applicants for certificate of registration as a registered barber, registered apprentice and barber school instructor. The final mission of the Board is to adopt regulations prohibiting the using of commercial chemicals of unknown content by persons registered by this Board.
- Ensuring that only licensed individuals engage in the practicing of barbering by inspecting shops on a regular basis.
- To protect the public safety and welfare by ensuring that the barber shops sanitary conditions are up to our General Statutes, 86A, standards.
- Investigate all valid, written complaints completing in an effort to eliminate the practice of illegal/unsanitary or unsafe barbering and complete the investigation, if necessary, with an administrative hearing before the Board.
- Inspect each shop a minimum of twice each year and a maximum of four times a year, depending on the condition of the shop to ensure that the shop and its barbers adhere to the standards of the profession.
